What We Do

Our Commitment

Honeygo Run Landfill is committed to operating with environmental practices and policies that are good for our customers, local businesses and residents. Our team of environmental managers, engineers and scientists ensures that the long-term management of landfill materials is regenerative to the planet.

Initiatives

Honeygo Run Landfill is operated in a manner designed to protect public health and the environment. We regularly monitor and report our activities to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and Baltimore County Department of Public Works. All waste is disposed of within the boundary of a constructed landfill area that has been engineered to protect the environment and meet or exceed all federal, state and local regulations. There are many environmental protection systems at Honeygo Run Landfill.

The Honeygo Run Landfill team takes multiple steps to protect the environment. All waste is screened to ensure unacceptable waste is not accepted, and our standard operating procedures are designed to exceed regulatory standards.

Protection of all water sources is a priority at Honeygo Run. The Landfill is designed with a highly engineered composite liner system designed to contain any liquids that percolate through the construction and demolition material. The liquids are collected in the leachate collection system and discharged into the sanitary sewer system. Surface water at the site is controlled through a series of diversion berms and drainage ditches and sediment ponds to preserve its quality. In addition, Honeygo Run Landfill assesses groundwater with 17 individual groundwater monitoring wells. Each well is routinely tested to verify the groundwater’s safety.

Landfill gas is collected through a series of pipes and safely destroyed at an on-site flare. In addition, the Landfill’s surface and exterior gas probes are also regularly monitored to evaluate the landfill gas management system performance.

Landfill

Waste is carefully compacted and covered to limit wind-blown debris and odors, and create a stable engineered hill.
